Join this exciting journey to discover Japan! The purpose of this course abroad in Japan is multifaceted. We explore and experience historical, educational, cultural, and societal perspectives firsthand. Individuals immerse themselves in Japanese culture and history by visiting important sites, interacting with people in Japanese, and observing their lived experiences. Individuals gain an understanding of different values, beliefs, ideas, and world views presented in the Japanese society and while they become aware of their own perceived values, beliefs, ideas, cultures, and world views and their relationship to the world.

From ultra-modern Tokyo to the serene ancient Kyoto, what you discover in Japan is up to you! Are you interested in exploring historical sites, museums, and historic preservation in Japan? Are you interested in the history of the atomic bombing and peace education in Japan? Are you ready to experience Japanese-style education? Are you interested in Japanese youth culture and all the things—Pikachu, anime, manga, Hello Kitty—that make Japan popular around the world? Are you curious to see whether lifestyles in Japan are really like what you see in your favorite anime, manga, YouTube videos or Instagram postings? Are you interested in eating authentic Japanese food?

With curiosity and open minds, adventures await you in Japan! This course abroad in Japan promises wonderful experiences for everyone! All are welcome and invited to join!

• HIST 298 – History and Travel, 3 Credits, (Prerequisite: Permission of instructor)
• HIST 498 - Historical Field Studies Abroad, 3 credits, (Prerequisite: Permission of Instructor)
• HIST 580 - Seminar in Non-Western History, 3 credits, (Prerequisite: HIST 501 or HIST 502 or permission of the department chair or M.A. coordinator) - International Requirement
• SPED 215 – Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, 3 credits - Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, International Requirement
• EDF 215 – Education in a Multicultural Society, 3 credits, (Prerequisite: Pre-BSED or permission of department chair) - Behavioral Sciences, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, International Requirement.
